P.S. To Love Thy Neighbor

A friend of mine said to me, "Imagine if you had planted your neighbors plants? They could have been pretty annoyed with you." Certainly, they could have been, with every right, annoyed with me if I had planted someone else's Easter gifts in their garden. I hope I would have thought the whole thing out before I actually followed through with "loving thy neighbor." But this leads me to a whole other thought process. I really did want to love my neighbor and I really did want to follow God's command and I really did have the best of intentions and I really did love the idea of planting those flowers and I, I, I . . . who's this about anyway? . . . certainly not my neighbor . . . and there goes the good deed, lost in a sea of pride. God really does want us to love our neighbors, but in a way that our neighbors would appreciate. Last night someone said to me, "People who are hard to love are hard to love." It's easy to do an act of kindness for thy neighbor if the act is something we love to do. The real love comes from doing an act of kindness that thy neighbor would love. And as it turns out, God being the merciful and wise God that He is, I was provided with an opportunity to do an act of kindness when my neighbor said she'd walk with me. We spent the morning walking and talking and then sitting and talking and then standing and talking and then saying good-bye and talking. I do love to talk. Maybe this was an act of kindness on her part . . .

I once thought that God found just the right house for us - God answers prayer.

But He said, "papa, it wasn't about you - the people needed to sell the house quickly, and I knew you needed one, but really it was all about them."

Wham! But He was right - the husband died as we finished the deal, his wife became a close friend and she died a year later of sudden brain cancer. When we closed on the house I actually asked the bank to put their selling costs on my cost sheet.

Its not about us LA, its all about Him!!

You are going to laugh! I had also been thinking about "loving my neighbor", who happens to be the son of the man who died alone (from alcoholism, his wife had left & the kids were grown.)This fellow is a policeman & works nights, sleeps days, not much time at home. Yesterday I cleared his front yard of all the twigs, branches & pine cones that came down from our last storm. My Tim was kind enough (or felt sorry enough) to come help me finish as I was racing against the rain. Anyway, it just occurred to me after reading about your Easter plants episode, what if he was saving all that wood for his fireplace??????????????? Ughhh!!!!!! And then again, being a guy in his early 30's, I bet all that clutter on his lawn didn't bug him one bit!! ha, ha As I was bending over for the millionth time I remember asking myself & the Lord if I was doing it for Billy or because his house is next to mine & the clutter bothered me!! Maybe a little of both...Lord, next time show me what my neighbor(s) would love:-)Honestly, I just wanted to surprise him...F

Papa, sometimes we are so wrapped up in our own situation that we think everything that happens is about us. Sometimes it is, but more often it's about someone else. God will surely bless you (He already has) for your kindness in putting the selling cost on your sheet. Thanks for sharing :)

Love and blessings!

F, thanks for the story and the laugh!! I know your intentions were pure and so does God. How sweet that Tim helped, bless his little heart. Any feedback from your neighbor? Do you think he'll even notice? Maybe he'll think the rain and the wind put it there and the rain and the wind took it away.

Be blessed dear friend.
